Common Art : Use of Basic Shapes

This assignment tasked us with finding a design from the artists Sparth, John Berky or Syd Mead, and then build a 3D-model in Maya using set prototyping tools.  The emphasis in this model was to be on shape.  We then had to take a screenshot of the model, put it into Photoshop, and then illustrate over the model.

Building inspiration.

Color palette inspiration.

Initial draft of model.

Second, and possibly final, draft of model.

Rough illustration of background with model in place.

Draft of illustrated model. I wanted the building to pop with the orange/reds like the sailboat in the earlier color palette inspiration image, but this is a little too red (and not detailed enough) for my liking.

Final draft of illustrated model.
